Negotiations between Fiat CEO Sergio Marchionne and Audi CEO Rupert Stadler are reportedly ongoing but both parties deny the rumors.
“We do not comment on speculative rumors,” Fiat spokesman Richard Gadeselli said.
“There is no substance in the news,” Audi spokesman Juergen De Graeve also said.
In recent years, rumors that Alfa Romeo is for sale have come and gone.
Sources say negotiations between Audi and Marchionne include the selling of the Alfa Romeo brand to Audi, as well as that of the Fiat factory in Pomigliano d’Arco, where it currently assembles the Fiat Panda.
Audi is already the owner of the Lamborghini brand, the Ducati motorcycle manufacturer and the design office Italdesign Giugiaro.
Despite constant denials from both parties, it remains to be seen whether Alfa Romeo will have a new owner soon.
