After Jolie made her decision public, Brad Pitt released a statement in which he expressed his admiration for his life partner.
“Having witnessed this decision firsthand, I find Angie’s choice, as well as many others like her, absolutely heroic,” Pitt declared. “I thank our medical team for their care and focus.”
“All I want is for her to have a long and healthy life, with myself and our children,” the actor added. “This is a happy day for our family.”
Marcheline Bertrand, Angelina’s mother, passed away after a battle with ovarian cancer at 56.
“My mother fought cancer for almost a decade and died at 56,” the Jolie wrote. “She held out long enough to meet the first of her grandchildren and to hold them in her arms. But my other children will never have the chance to know her and experience how loving and gracious she was.”
Angelina Jolie started proceedings for double mastectomy in February and confessed that Brad Pitt had been “so loving and supportive,” and was beside her “for every minute of the surgeries.”
