According to BGR, Michael Barrett, chief information security officer of PayPal has “seemingly confirmed” that the iPhone 5S, which should be released later this year, will come with a fingerprint reader.
“It’s widely rumored that a large technology provider in Cupertino, Calif., will come out with a phone later this year that has a fingerprint reader on it,” he said during a keynote at Interop.
“There is going to be a fingerprint enabled phone on the market later this year. Not just one, multiple.”
Also according to Barrett, more smartphones equipped with this type of sensor will come out sometime in 2013.
Apple’s acquisition of fingerprint security firm AuthenTec for more than $350 million in July 2012 is regarded as a key step in the innovation of the next iPhone.
