iPhone low-cost model rumors: leaked photo shows plastic rear shell

Nowhereelse.fr has published a pair of shots which capture the housing elements of the cheaper iPhone model.

The French site is known for its numerous leaks of information and images about new Apple products.

The pictures show a device with a round rear microphone hole and rounded rear edges, in line with previous reports about possible features of the device.

Update: Nowhereelse.fr has posted a new set of photos in which the smartphone appears in colors of green, red and yellow, which is consistent with claims that it will be available in several colors, most likely similar to the bumpers for the iPhone 4/4S.

iPhone 5S rumors: new Home button with Apple logo?

The pic was posted by Czech website Letemsvetemapplema who claims that Apple intends to apply the logo on the home button of future devices.

The idea seems somewhat curios, given that Apple usually places its logo so that it can be seen by the others, not by the handset’ owner.

According to Cult of Mac, the site Letemsvetemapplema has provided valid information about unreleased Apple products in the past, but they’re also skeptical about such a move on the part of Apple.

Rumors have suggested that the iPhone 5S could come with a fingerprint reader incorporated into the Home button.

iPhone 5S rumors: leaked pictures, components, features and more

Rumors on the implementation of a dual LED flash in the iPhone 5S have existed for several months, and now a leaked image shows an increase of the space allocated to the LED flash.

At a closer look two LEDs placed instead of one can be seen.

Implementing a dual LED flash on iPhones would provide users with the ability to record pictures in low light conditions.

Other images show that the next iPhone is going have an A7 chip, 1 GB RAM and also the implementation of a dual LED flash in the next device.

Although the chips in the pictures don’t have the A7 branding, which many expected to see, the codes registered on the edges denote the fact that that is the name Apple will likely give to the chipset.

At the top an APL0698 code is marked, a code that at first sight does not say much, but that in fact confirms the existence of an A7 chip.

Apple’s A6 chip has the code APL0598, the chip A6X from iPad has the code APL5598, (the A5 chip having the code APL0498) and the difference of one digit / two digits between the code on an A5/A6 chip and the one in the picture denotes the transition to a new model.

Analyzing other codes on the chips, it seems that the prototype with the component we are talking about was assembled in December 2012, so it is quite old, but it would still have 1 GB RAM.

Regarding the dual LED flash, we can observe two different lights in the location dedicated to the flash.

The front camera of iPhone 5S has leaked in new images, and it is rumored that the next iPhone will feature a 13-megapixel main camera and a front camera capable of recording in 1080p, but this hasn’t been confirmed yet by information in the iOS 7 or based on images that surfaced online.

Another picture shows a supposed iPhone 5S production line and the front panel of the device. The image suggests that at the moment Apple partners produce at least some of the components of the iPhone 5S, and that they are going to be assembled.

After many rumors taking as certain that the iPhone 5S will be available in 5-6 colors, now we have the first components that support this idea, and in the image you can see a blue version of the SIM tray.

A supposed picture showing the battery of the future device presented on what seems to be a production line of an Apple partner surfaced this week.

However, the components have no markings on them and basically we can’t know for sure if they are authentic.

For months it has been rumored that the iPhone 5S would be Apple’s first smartphone to have a fingerprint reader.

This fingerprint reader has to be implemented in the sides of the screen instead of the Home button and electrical impulses would read users’ touches.

New HD pics put up the front cover of the iPhone 5 and the iPhone 5S side-by-side.

A notable difference between the devices is the slightly longer flex cable that stands out in the photos from the housing.

Microsoft hints at 7-inch, 7.5-inch and 10.6-inch Windows 8 tablets

The Verge’s Tom Warren was present at a session on building apps for multiple screen sizes at Microsoft’s Build developer conference on Thursday.

During the presentation, several anticipated screen sizes for small Windows 8.1 tablets were lined up on the screen.

Interestingly the list contained references to 7-inch, 7.5-inch, and 10.6-inch Windows 8 tablets running at high resolutions.

The 10.6-inch display is listed as running at 2560 x 1440 and the 7-inch display at 1920 x 1200, while the 7.5-inch panel comes with a 1440 x 1080 resolution.

The site speculates that given the limited use of a 10.6-inch display for devices, Microsoft may have accidentally disclosed a new Surface tablet.

Apple signs deal with TSMC

According to The Wall Street Journal, Cupertino has signed an agreement with Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. (TSMC) for the production of these microchips from 2014.

However, despite the agreement, Samsung will be the main supplier for next year.

The report states that the transition to the TSMC chips may be slower than expected due to difficulties for the manufacturer to comply with Apple’s standards for speed and power consumption for the components.

Throughout the production of iPhones and iPads, the Korean manufacturer has been one of the leading suppliers of components to Apple.

Alec Baldwin apologizes for Twitter rant

Hilaria Baldwin/Webstagram

The 30 Rock actor got into a rage against a journalist who had criticized his wife’s attitude at the funeral of James Gandolfini, who died in Italy, Rome last week.

The Daily Mail’s George Stark claimed that Baldwin’s wife Hilaria had tweeted and retweeted messages while the couple was attending the religious service.

Stark’s article read: “The pregnant yoga instructor’s social media feed was full of upbeat posts while the Sopranos star’s friends, family and co-stars were gripped with grief at a New York Catholic church.”

Famous for his fiery temperament, Baldwin expressed his anger on his Twitter account that he has since deleted.

The first tweet read, “Someone wrote that my wife was tweeting at a funeral. Hey. That’s not true. But I’m gonna tweet at your funeral.”

“George Stark, you lying little b—-h. I am gonna f%#@ you up,” the actor wrote.

“My wife and I attend a funeral to pay our respects to an old friend, and some toxic Brit writes this f—ing trash.”

But that wasn’t all as he started making homophobic comments.

“(I’d) put my foot up your f—king ass, George Stark, but I’m sure you’d dig it too much,” Baldwin tweeted.

“How much of this s— are people supposed to take? With these f—king blatant lies EVERY DAY,” he continued.

“My wife DID NOT use her phone, in any capacity, at our friends funeral. Now, f—k this twitter + good luck to all of you who know the truth.”

Hilaria also raised her voice on Twitter: “FYI I don’t believe in bringing phones into a funeral and I never did and I never would.”

The New York Daily News reports that Hilaria left her phone in the couple’s car before the funeral and that the tweets were sent during their ride home.

The actor has since issued a statement, apologizing for the Twitter rants.

“My ill-advised attack on George Stark of the Daily Mail had absolutely nothing to do with issues of anyone’s sexual orientation,” he said in a statement to GLAAD.

“My anger was directed at Mr. Stark for blatantly lying and disseminating libelous information about my wife and her conduct at our friend’s funeral service. As someone who fights against homophobia, I apologize.”

One of the actor’s angry tweets read, “I don’t have a publicist anymore. I fired them.”

However, his publicist, Matthew Hiltzik, claims he still represents the actor, and sent a statement on his behalf to the Huffington Post:

“It is disgraceful that this reporter manufactured a story and never called for comment or explanation — especially when it needlessly diverted attention away from a day to honor the memory of a beloved figure like Mr Gandolfini.”

The actor also commented the situation in a chat with Gothamist.

“The idea of me calling this guy a ‘queen’ and that being something that people thought is homophobic…a queen to me has a different meaning,” Baldwin said. “It’s somebody who’s just above. It doesn’t have any necessarily sexual connotations…I know women that act queeny, I know men that are straight that act queeny, and I know gay men that act queeny. It doesn’t have to be a definite sexual connotation, or a homophobic connotation. To me those are people who think the rules don’t apply to them.”

“I’m not interested in offending anyone,” he said. “If homosexuality was an issue for me, I would have moved out of New York years ago. I find that laughable.”

Alec and Hilaria are expecting their first child, a little girl, this summer.

Paula Deen to appear on ‘Dancing with the Stars’?

Paula Deen/Facebook

Paula Deen may be a member of the “Dancing with the Stars” cast this fall.

“The producers would love to have Paula join the cast of next season … They have a history of casting controversial people like Kate Gosselin and Bristol Palin, if Paula says ‘yes,’ you can add her to that list,” Rob Shuter reports.

ABC had declined to comment on the report.

This isn’t the first time Paula is asked to be on the show. Back in 2010 she refused to be a part of the cast, telling Extra, “Fat girls don’t look good sweating. I’ve got catfish arms … And I’ve got — is that a muffin top right there?”
