Almost simultaneously, the two singers announced their intention to leave the show after only one year.

The Hero singer retweeted a post by her reps that read, “W/ global success of “#Beautiful” (#1 in 30+ countries so far) @MariahCarey confirms world tour & says goodbye 2 Idol.”

The news that the pop diva will leave the show to go on a world tour comes not long after Randy Jackson’s announcement of his departure, following a sharp drop in audience.

“The rest of this year is jam-packed with Mariah putting the finishing touches on her much anticipated forthcoming album, headlining the Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Spectacular and appearing in Lee Daniels’s The Butler, opening in August,” her rep told People.

The artist was hired last year as a new judge to the American Idol show, along with Keith Urban and Nicki Minaj.

Shortly after Carey’s announcement, Minaj wrote on Twitter that she also left the show to concentrate on her musical career.

“Thank you American Idol for a life changing experience! Wouldn’t trade it for the world! Time to focus on the Music!!! Mmmuuuaahhh!!!” she tweeted.
