Volvo will present a car that can park in a fully autonomous manner, that is, without a driver.
The driver uses a mobile phone application to enable the technology.
Once enabled, the vehicle finds a free parking space using sensors, gets there and makes the parking maneuver.
The system is able to return to where the driver was left or to drive the car up to a new meeting point.
Thanks to the autonomous driving and automatic detection and braking, the car maintains safety in interactions with other vehicles and pedestrians in the parking area.
Sensors and cameras located at the front and rear of the car help the safe maneuvering of the vehicle.
“Autonomous parking is a concept technology that relieves the driver of the time-consuming task of finding a vacant parking space. The driver just drops the vehicle off at the entrance to the car park and picks it up in the same place later,” says Thomas Broberg, a senior safety advisor at Volvo Car Group.
