Jennifer Lopez creates controversy after she performs for president of Turkmenistan

At the invitation of the China National Petroleum Corp. JLo sang in honor of the President of Turkmenistan, Saturday, June 29 at Avaza.

By agreeing to sing for the Berdimuhamedow, who is no stranger to critics for his oppressive rule, Lopez triggered a heated debate from human rights supporters.

The singer has released a statement through her publicist, saying she was unaware of these issues.

“Had there been knowledge of human rights issues any kind, Jennifer would not have attended,” the statement read.

Her publicist added that she has no other performances scheduled in the country.
