John Mayer denies his song “Paper Doll” is about Taylor Swift

He may have been spotted in the company of Katy Perry lately, but that won’t stop people from talking about his former flames.

The chorus of the song Paper Doll goes like this, “You’re like 22 girls in one/ And none of them know what they’re running from/ Was it just too far to fall for a little paper doll?”

Ironically, Swift’s single “22” was released earlier this year, and in “Dear John” she sings, “I’ll look back and regret how I ignored when they said run as fast as you can.”

Friday on the Today show, Mayer addressed the speculation regarding.

“There’s been some speculation from the press that it might be about someone,” co-host Willie Geist asked. “True or false?”

“Yeah, songwriters write songs because of people, about people,” Mayer replied. “Anything someone else wrote is their reception of a song. I don’t get involved with [it]. It’s none of my business.”
