In the August issue of Men’s Journal magazine the country singer talks about how his home state of Oklahoma makes him feel like he’s reborn.
”As soon as we’re done on Wednesdays, my a## is on the plane. I get in my truck, I see the fields, see the cows,” he tells the mag.
The new season of NBC’s The Voice starts Sept. 23 and reunites him with the original judging panel including Christina Aguilera, Cee Lo Green and Adam Levine.
He and his wife Miranda Lambert are the owners of a “small prairie fiefdom” in Johnston County, Oklahoma.
“There’s a Dollar General, on Main Street, and a Family Dollar,” he says. “And if you can’t find what you need there … the closest Walmart is … 15 miles away.”
He also describes what makes a “hot date” for his and his wife Miranda.
“Throwing a cooler in the back of the pickup and driving around the property clearing brush and singing to the radio,” Shelton says. “Or else having dinner at the all-you-can-eat rib buffet and dessert at Dairy Queen. When we get home, we like to be home.”
As for why he’ll never buy a house in California , despite spending six months of the year there, he says: ”There’s something about owning a house here that makes it official.”
