“Her Royal Highness The Duchess of Cambridge was safely delivered of a son at 4:24 p.m.,” the statement read. “The baby weighs 8lbs 6oz.”
“The Duke of Cambridge was present for the birth. The Queen, The Duke of Edinburgh, The Prince of Wales, The Duchess of Cornwall, Prince Harry and members of both families have been informed and are delighted with the news,” the statement added.
The Duchess will spend the night in the hospital with her newborn. The name of the baby is yet unknown.
The baby is the third in order of succession to the British throne.
Earlier today Kate was admitted at St Mary’s Hospital in London after feeling her first contractions.
Since early July journalists have settled in front of the London hospital where Kate was scheduled to give birth in order to make sure they won’t miss the moment the little prince makes his first public appearance.
