“Both my wife [Camilla, the Duchess of Cornwall] and I are overjoyed at the arrival of my first grandchild,” Prince Charles said in a statement. “It is an incredibly special moment for William and Catherine and we are so thrilled for them on the birth of their baby boy.”
He added: “Grandparenthood is a unique moment in anyone’s life, as countless kind people have told me in recent months, so I am enormously proud and happy to be a grandfather for the first time and we are eagerly looking forward to seeing the baby in the near future.”
On Monday, July 22, Kate Middleton was admitted to the same hospital in London where Princess Diana gave birth to her first child, William, with Prince of Wales by her side, 31 years ago.
Prince Charles was visiting the National Railway Museum in York this Monday morning.
Last week Prince Charles’ wife Camilla Parker-Bowles revealed that she hoped Kate would give birth by the end of the week.
“We are all just waiting by the telephone. We are hopeful that by the end of the week he or she will be here,” she said.
