Lady Gaga reveals the cover for new single “Applause”

To illustrate the single, Lady Gaga has chosen to work with her favorite photographers Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, who also worked on the video for the song.

The singer took to Twitter to unveil the picture. The photo shows her as a pierrot, or pantomime artist, with her long hair hid under a sort of bonnet, and colorful paint on her face.

“It’s the end of the night after the show,” the singer told WWD. “When I look at it I see that there is a longing for the applause. I see that there is a void that is leaking onstage, that the performer is leaking, that the art is sort of becoming something else in front of your eyes. Something more human, something more honest.”

The artist will release Applause on August 19, and pre-orders of Artpop will also begin that day, followed by a release in stores on Nov. 11.
