A team conducted by Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster questioned customers lining up outside Apple stores in New York, Minneapolis and San Francisco.
The results show that 90% of the iPhone 5S/5C buyers upgraded from an older version of the handset, compared to 83% last year and 73% two years ago.
Also, 36% of those surveyed upgraded from the iPhone 5 which is the most recent Apple smartphone, an increase compared to last year when 26% upgraded dropped the 4S in favor of the iPhone 5.
These findings demonstrate the popularity of Apple’s iPhone among smartphone buyers.
Regarding storage capacity, the survey noted an average increase of 3.1 GB, meaning that users want more storage space.
In addition, 72% of iPhone 5S/5C buyers own an iPad, which is 9% higher than last year.
