According to market research firm IHS (Via All Things Digital), Apple gives away $199 to build the 16GB iPhone 5S, whereas the 64GB version goes for $218.
The report also claims that the devices cost $8 to assemble, with the rest of the costs for components.
Also, IHS found that the manufacturing of the iPhone 5C costs somewhere between $173 and $183, with an assembly cost of $7.
The displays turned to be the most expensive parts, estimated at $41.
However, in the end Apple is left with a heavy profit as an iPhone 5S is offered for between $649 and $849 without a contract, whereas the iPhone 5C costs $549 and $649, also without contract.
And the past weekend sure proved to be a profitable one. After the launch, Apple sold 9 million units worldwide.
