Numerous names have been taken into account as possible replacements for the role of sadistic character Christian Grey.

True Blood actor Alexander Skarsgard is one of these names, although at 37 he is 10 years older than the character in the book.

Just Jared reports that French Canadian actor Francois Arnaud, who plays Cesare Borgia in Showtime’s The Borgias, has been “approached for the role.”

31-year-old Irish actor James Dornan is also among favorites. He stars as a serial killer who is also a family man on BBC’s The Fall and Sheriff Graham on Once Upon a Time.

Together with Christian Cooke, 26, Dornan was said to be coveting the role before Hunnam was cast.

Theo James is also considered for the role, and he’s no stranger to book adaptations as he starred in Divergent, which is inspired by Veronica Roth’s hit novel series Divergent.

However, Robert Pattinson, who has long been believed to be producers’ choice for the role, shouldn’t be included on the list anymore.

It is known that E L James drew inspiration for the male character in the book based on Pattinson’s role as a vampire in the Twilight saga.

The movie’s release date is still set for August 4, 2014.
