Apple senior VP of worldwide marketing Phil Schiller announced that the new model is equipped with a 3.7GHz quad-core Xeon CPU, 12GB DRAM that can be expanded to 64GB, and two AMD FirePro D300 GPUs.
In addition, the new DDR3 RAM is twice as fast as the current version.
Other specs include six Thunderbolt 2 ports, four USB 3.0 ports, dual Gigabit Ethernet jacks, and HDMI output.
Everything is packed into a cylinder enclosure measuring 9.9 inches in height and with a diameter of 6.6 inches.
The new Mac Pro will sell for $2,999 with a quad-core Xeon chipset, 12GB of RAM, and 256GB of SSD storage. It will be available in stores this December.
