The front panel of the iPad Air is 17% thinner than the iPad 3, the tactile sensors are 70% thinner, the battery is 25% thinner, the screen is 20% thinner and the casing is 23% thinner.

The screen consumes 57% less energy than Retina displays from iPad 3 and 4. This allows Apple to implement a battery that stores up to 33% less energy than previous models, thus reducing the thickness of the product.

The tablet only uses 36 LEDs to illuminate the screen, compared to 84 on the iPad 3 or iPad 4.
