The 45-year-old actor revealed on his Instagram account Thursday that doctors have identified cancer cells on his nose.
The Australian actor published a photo of his bandaged nose, saying that he was diagnosed with basal cell carcinoma, in a medical examination that he underwent following his wife Deborra-Lee Furness’ advice.
“Deb said to get the mark on my nose checked. Boy, was she right!” he wrote. “Please don’t be foolish like me. Get yourself checked. And USE sunscreen!!!”
This type of cancer is the most common form of skin cancer that affects more than 90% of patients in the US. It rarely becomes malignant, but if the tumor isn’t removed it can damage the surrounding tissue.
