Brian Griffin is dead. The famous dog in the Family Guy series died in the last episode.

“You’ve given me a wonderful life. I love you all,” are Brian’s final words.

Stewie Griffin could have used his time machine to change Brian’s fate but it was dismantled earlier in the episode and he was unable to find replacement parts.

Fans of the series flooded the internet to express their disappointment over the loss of one of their favorite characters.

More than 85,000 people have signed a petition launched by Aaron Thompson on Change.org to bring back the deceased dog.

“The writers of family guy didn’t just kill off one of their creations, they killed off the dog who has lived in our homes for the last 15 years,” the petition reads. “They killed the dog we all have come to love. They killed America’s dog!”

Producer Steve Callaghan spoke with E! News after Sunday’s episode, althsaying that the idea to kill off Brian was seen as “a fun way to shake things up.”

“Our fans are smart enough and have been loyal to our show for long enough, to know that they can trust us,” he told E!. “We always make choices that always work to the greatest benefit of the series.”

As a result of death, the creators have decided to adopt a new dog, Vinny, voiced by Tony Sirico who played Paulie in the hit series The Sopranos.
