Sony patent for Flat Joystick Controller with touchpad surfaces

A patent application filed by the company describes a “Flat Joystick Controller” that looks like an improved version of the popular Playstation Move with new features.

Launched in 2010, the device was coupled to the console in the same way that the Wii did with the Nintendo console.

The document describes “[a] controller device to interface with a computer gaming system [that] includes a body having a handle and an object disposed at one end of the handle.”

The device in the patent seems to be structured similarly to the PlayStation Move but it also features a “touch surface” in the center, like that of the DualShock 4.

The PS4 comes with PlayStation Move but an upgraded version is likely to arrive in the near future.
