Katy Perry and John Mayer believe “Who You Love” is “more authentic” than Kimye’s “Bound 2”

In an interview on the show on Friday, Dec. 20, Katy Perry revealed she finds the music video for Who Do You Love with boyfriend John Mayer better than Kanye West’s video for the Bound 2.

“Was it your response to Kim and Kanye’s ‘Bound 2?'” DeGeneres asked.

“Yes. I thought our response was a little bit more authentic because my hair was blowing in the right direction, though . . .” Perry joked.

In the clip several couples, including John and Katy, have fun on a mechanical bull. The two also flirt with each other in front of the cameras in several scenes.

“They’re on the bull for two seconds but we shot in such slow motion that you get about a minute of footage,” Mayer said.

“That was the first time we had done it sober,” he admitted. “That was the first sober bull ride.”

The pair, who has been dating since 2012 and split for a short period of time earlier this year, admitted that they’ve had ups and downs in their relationship.

“I think when two people are involved, someone other than yourself, you have to figure out a compromise in a good way,” Perry said. “And there’s a lot of respect. You know, I really adore him and respect him as a musician and that’s why I was excited and agreed to do a song with him.”

“We have a lot of fun,” she added. “We have music as an understanding and love between each other and we connect. It’s like he understands what I do because he does the same thing. And so after a long day, if it’s been tough, I don’t really have to go into it. He just gets it. So it’s nice with that understanding.”
