iPhone 6 release date rumors, design, specs after iPhone 5S/5C launch

The rumored iPhone 6 raises many questions and the Cupertino company is silent about any possible feature of the smartphone. But that doesn’t prevent some information from being leaked on the net.

The most frequent rumor about the next iPhone is the one regarding the device’s larger screen size which is expected to measure somewhere between 4.5 and 5 inches and be based on the in-cell touch screen technology.

A report by the Wall Street Journal stated that prototypes of smartphones with screens that vary between 4.8 and 6 inches are currently being tested.

Fueling that rumor was DisplaySearch analyst David Hsieh who claimed that Apple is undergoing tests for two iPhones of different screen sizes – a 4.7-inch panel with 1,280 x 720-pixel resolution and a 5.7-inch display with full HD 1080p resolution.

A similar report came from Bloomberg that wrote about new iPhones being under development and featuring larger screens measuring 4.7 and 5.5 inches.

The second half of November saw rumors about a possible iPhone 6C that would benefit from a screen size boost.

Citi Research’s Glen Yeung and Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster estimate that the device’s possible release date will be set in the first half of 2014, whereas Bloomberg wrote that the smartphone could hit the market in Q3 of 2014, according “sources familiar with the plans.”

A report by Japanese publication “Mac Fan 2013 December” claimed the handset will arrive on the market in September 2014.

News broke in November about an agreement between Apple and GT Advanced Technologies, a factory specializing in the production of sapphire.

The deal sparked speculation that Cupertino may be planning to use the scratch-resistant sapphire glass instead of its current Gorilla Corning Glass 3.

Also, TechCrunch reported that a company called Twin Creeks has developed a hydrogen ion particle accelerator that allows cutting very thin slices of sapphire glass, which could simplify the cutting process.

CNET’s Lance Whitney believes 2014 is the year Apple will launch an iPhone with NFC capabilities after the technology is firmly established on the market.

The handset could also incorporate a higher-pixel camera an improved battery life.

In the end, here are several concepts of the highly-anticipated iPhone 6, framing possible ideas about what the device could look like.
