On Wednesday night, the former couple was awarded “Best Chemistry” at People’s Choice Awards 2014.
After three years of romance, Nina and Ian chose to end their relationship in May 2013 but in the series they are still a couple.
And when they went up on stage the ex-lovers alluded to their breakup with a joke.
“It’s just honest,” Nina told E! News of the moment. “All it was was just honest. You call a spade a spade.”
“I was trying to figure out, like what do you say in that situation?” she said. “We were like, well, we’re cool, we’re friends and costars. He’s a great person, I’m a great person…I mean, I think I’m pretty awesome.[Laughs.] So it doesn’t need to be awkward and I think everyone expected it to be so awkward. We made fun of ourselves and just had fun.”
