This week rumors about the possible release date claimed that we might see the smartphone as early as next month.
Eldar Murtazin, editor at Russian site Mobile-Review, sparked the rumors with a tweet which announced that Samsung would hold the launching event at 6:00 p.m. local time in the city of Barcelona, on February 23rd.
Murtazin also wrote that the S5 will hit the market somewhere at the “end of April” and that a new version of TouchWizz could be in the pipeline.
However, a few days later he changed his claims and stated that due to the many leaks, the S5 could be unveiled at an event in March in London.
In terms of specs, The Korea Herald reported that a fingerprint scanner might be introduced in the device.
The report added that the retinal scanning technology is currently underdeveloped and the implementation of an iris scanner isn’t possible yet.
However, Phone Arena cited an insider who claimed that the S5 will pack a 2K QHD display with 2560 x 1440 resolution, a 2900mAh battery, a 20-megapixel camera and a “state of the art iris sensor and wide range of health accessories.”
The handset will be equipped with a plastic case and its design will be different from that of its predecessor.
Korean publication ET News suggests the S5 will come with improved Air Gestures support.
Also, reports about a new wireless charging system that would be featured on the S5 were denied, according to NewsTomato.
