According to sources cited by the Commercial Times, the new A8 chip has entered production at Apple partner Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC).
The report notes that it will be an extremely powerful processor: it will have a quad-core 64-bit processor and quad-core graphics.
The publication also writes that given the early start of the manufacturing process, the iPhone 6 could easily be available for launch in the third quarter of 2014.
TSMC has declined to comment on the information, but the company’s shares rose 2.33% at Tw$110.0 on Wednesday.
The iPhone 6 is rumored to pack a more powerful A8 chip, an improved camera sensor and a larger display.
