According to Japanese newspaper Nikkei, the new Apple smartphone will be released in September and in two sizes: a 4.7-inch screen and a second larger 5.5-inch model.
These screens will reportedly be provided by Sharp, Japan Display and LG Electronics.
Mass production of screens is set to begin between April and June.
The publication expects the display to feature a “significantly higher” resolution than the current 326 pixel-per-inch screen.
A recent Apple patent described an oleophobic coating that would help avoid having fingerprints or stains remain on the surface of the device.
It was reported at the beginning of the month that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company has started the production of the A8 processor chip for the next iPhone.
