The U.S. Patent and Trademark Office published two patent applications on Thursday, which were spotted by AppleInsider.

The filings seem to show that Apple is interested in the integration of new sensors that could detect temperature, pressure, humidity and sound in its future mobile devices.

The first patent, titled “Electronic Devices With Environmental Sensors,” describes a component that could fit multiple sensors, including a temperature sensor, a pressure sensor, a humidity sensor and other sensors.

The second patent application, “Electronic Devices With Temperature Sensors,” discusses temperature sensors in the form of a thermometer that is installed in a device button.

While not mentioning the iWatch, the patents say the sensors can be used in a “wrist watch” device.

Recent rumors have also suggested that the iPhone 6 could include sensor functionality.
