In a note to investors, RBC analyst Amit Daryanani expects the iPhone 6 to be the biggest product launch ever for Apple.
Cupertino has decided to order between 70 and 80 million iPhone 6 units to subcontractors.
“Most supply chain data is pointing towards Apple gearing up to ramp 70-80 million iPhone 6 units across the two form factors (4.7”/5.5”),” the analyst says. “This is a notable uptick from last year when the supply chain ramped 50-60 million units.”
According to him, Apple will sell 10 million iPhones in the first weekend of marketing and at least 60 million more smartphones by the end of 2014.
The analyst also expects an increase over the previous year for the December quarter, which is generally the strongest period for the company.
Of the 80 million units produced, Apple will be able to sell an estimated 75 million before the end of the year, he says.
