Apple A9 16nm processor to enter volume production in Q1 2015

The latest rumors suggest that TSMC will advance the production of its 16 nanometer chips to the first quarter of 2015. China’s Economic Daily News reports [via Digitimes].

Production of Apple’s A9 system-on-a-chip was initially planned for the second quarter of 2015.

The manufacturer will be capable of a rate of 50,000 wafers a month from the beginning of next year in order to meet Apple’s demand on Apple A9 processors.

Production is expected to reach higher volumes in the second half of next year.

A report in June claimed that Cupertino had signed a three-year deal with TSMC for the production of future Ax processors for the next three years.

Apple is also said to have placed orders at Samsung and GlobalFoundries to manufacture the A9 processors.
