In an interview granted exclusively to People Greece magazine, Stefani Germanotta, aka Mother Monster, opened up about her family –she is very close to her parents, who often attend her concerts -, about the collaboration with Tony Bennett – the two artists launched the album “Ckeek to Ckeek” in September 2014, and on artists that have had the greatest influence on her music – listing legendary singers as David Bowie, the Queen, Freddie Mercury, Michael Jackson and Madonna – with some additions- among other interesting stuff.
“David Bowie, the Queen, Freddie Mercury and Michael Jackson. I would like to say Madonna, but let me tell you something. If I was an established artist, I would love to help younger artists,” she told the magazine about her musical influences.
The reporter who interviewed asked: “What do you mean, that Madonna has no soul?”
“You said it, not me!” Gaga jokingly replied.
Lady Gaga has often been compared to Madonna and the 28-year-old singer was even accused of plagiarizing one of her famous songs. The Poker Face singer was compelled to defend herself in the press, in 2011, against the accusation that her hit “Born This Way” had copied Madonna’s song “Express Yourself.”
In 2013, Madonna provided a point of view about Gaga’s Born This Way hit in an interview with ABC News’ 20/20.
“I certainly think she references me a lot in her work. And sometimes I think it’s amusing and flattering and well done,” she said. “There’s a lot of ways to look at it. I can’t really be annoyed by it …because, obviously, I’ve influenced her.”
“When I heard it on the radio …I said that sounds very familiar. It feels reductive,” she added.
In 2009, Madonna and her daughter Loudes attended a Lady Gaga concert in New York. They appeared together in a satirical episode of “Saturday Night Live” in October 2009, when they mimicked a “fight” scene.
