According to Digitimes, Apple has chosen Samsung for the production of the S1 processing module for its smartwatch.
The processor will be manufactured by Samsung Electronics in a 28-nanometer fabrication process and with orders of up to 4,000 12-inch wafers per month.
The report notes that the S1 uses a system-in-package, or SiP, design and it houses all the chips required for the operation of the watch: processor, NAND flash, mobile DRAM and others.
The news are consistent with previous rumors that circulated in November and claimed that Apple will rely on Samsung to produce many of the components of the iPhone 6 and Apple Watch.
New reports suggest the Apple Watch will be available for launch at the end of March 2015.
