“The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge are delighted to announce that they have named their daughter Charlotte Elizabeth Diana,” Kensington Palace announced via Twitter. “The baby will be known as Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge.”
Charlotte was one of the favorites among bookmakers, taken after Princess Charlotte of Wales or Charlotte of Mecklenburg-Strelitz, the mother of King George IV. Also the name Charlotte, is the feminine version of Charles, which is actually a French name, which seems to pay tribute to William’s father, the Prince of Wales.
Elizabeth is obviously inspired by Queen Elizabeth II, and Diana by Prince William’s late mother, Princess Diana.
The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge welcomed their second child on Saturday at 8:34 a.m., at St. Mary’s Hospital.
