Princess Diana wore this dress at a photo session taken by photographer Patrick Demarchelier in 1991.
Initially estimated at $80,000, the dress was finally sold for $200,000 at an auction.
Demarchelier’s photo of the princess wearing the iconic dress was published by Harper’s Bazaar magazine on its cover in November 1997, three months after Princess Diana’s death in Paris in August.
The gray silk dress with gold prints had a starting price of $30,000 at this auction organized by Julien’s Auctions.
The dress was created by Gianni Versace, founder of the fashion house bearing his name.
