Kate Middleton’s first state banquet: The Duchess of Cambridge wore Lotus Flower tiara

This week on Tuesday, the Duchess of Cambridge, 33, shone in a Jenny Packham red gown accessorized with a Lotus Flower/Papyrus tiara at her first state banquet, hosted by Queen Elizabeth II, 89, at Buckingham Palace on the occasion of the visit of the President of China, Xi Jinping and his wife, Madame Peng Liyuan.

The tiara chosen by Duchess Kate for this event was the same as the one worn in December 2013 at the Palace reception for diplomats.

The Chinese President and his wife are set to spend four days in the UK. The British Monarchy and Kensington Palace tweeted today several photos of The Queen and the Duke welcoming the Chinese presidential couple, and also pictures of the preparations for the banquet.

The Queen’s Jewels author Leslie Field believed that the royal mother-of-two would eventually opt for a small tiara.
