Even though everyone expected the second royal baby to come into the world in April, Princess Charlotte of Cambridge was born on May 2.

That same day Her Royal Highness Princess Charlotte of Cambridge, who is the fourth in the order of succession to the British throne, was introduced to the world outside the delivery room of St. Mary’s Hospital.

The following days the royal family headed to their 10-bedroom country estate, Anmer Hall, which was a wedding present from the Queen. But not before the little princess was visited by her great-grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, 89, who gushed over the newest member of the family during a garden party at Buckingham Palace, saying, “We love to have another girl.”

William and Kate’s baby girl also received two visits from her grandfather, Prince Charles, 66, before leaving the Palace for an idyllic life in the village of Anmer in Norfolk. Charles, Prince of Wales expressed his delight over having a niece.

“I was hoping for a granddaughter – someone to look after me when I am very old,” he said a few days after Princess Charlotte’s birth.

The first official portraits of Princess Charlotte with her big brother Prince George were revealed in June, and were taken by their mother.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s baby girl was christened on July 5 at St. Mary Magdalene Church in Sandringham, Norfolk, the same church where William’s late mother Princess Diana was baptized.

Princess Charlotte was lavished with gifts from around the world. Reuven Rivlin, the President of Israel gifted her with a summer dress embroidered on top with the message, “From Israel with love”.

Also, the Princess received a $200,000 Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs painting by “someone very close to the family.” First Lady Michelle Obama brought Prince George, 2, a Berlin Flyer P-Wee Wagon, and a personalized Alpaca baby blanket and an American-made Amish rocking chair for Princess Charlotte.

During an interview in July, Prince William called his daughter a “little joy of heaven,” and praised his wife, saying, “Catherine has been doing an amazing job as a mother and I’m very proud of her.”

During a visit to St. John’s College at Cambridge University last month, the Duke opened up about his two adorable children.

“He said George is very lively and Charlotte is very lady-like. He said they were both delightful of course,” Professor Christopher Dobson, the Master of St John’s College, said.
