The DeLorean DMC-12 model that became famous after the “Back to the Future” movie, was turned into an electric vehicle by the Italians.

In order to properly celebrate 25 years since the first screening of the film “Back to the Future”, the Italians at Wired had planned a special event focused around a symbol of the movie: the famous DeLorean DMC-12 automobile used by the characters to travel in time.

The car was modified in order to carry a reliable electric drive train, developed by the Italian Roberto Bici in collaboration with Enel and e-Cars Now.
The car, renamed Electric Car, gives up the classic 2.8-liter V6 engine in favor of an electric one, with notable performances.

The engine can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 4.2 seconds, ensuring a top speed of 140 km/h, enough to make it possible for the car to perform the “jump in time”, made famous in the movie. Although we are talking about a prototype, DeLorean can provide a maximum range of 220 kilometers, a promising figure for a vehicle of this type.

In order to emphasize the qualities of the electric car, but also to remind everybody of the futuristic shape of the model, DeLorean Electric Car is crossing Italy from Milan to Rome between 25 and 28 October.
