Maserati working on a rival to the Porsche 911 Turbo?

Maserati is rumored to be preparing a new supercar that will compete against the Porsche 911 Turbo.

The news about the new model, rumored to be named GranSport, was revealed by CEO Harald Wester in an interview with Evo magazine.

According to Italy’s The Volante, the model is expected to be equipped with a mid-rear mounted 4.7 liter V8 turbocharged four-cylinder engine, which is mated to the automatic twin dry clutch transmission.

The supercar can achieve a top speed of over 250 km/h (155 mph) and under 5 seconds to reach the 0 to 100 km/h acceleration.

The model will hit the market in 2015 and the starting price would be less than 150,000 euros. Maserati will produce 1,500-2,000 units annually.

As The Volante points out, a rival to Porsche 911 Turbo is only a project, although Maserati sources suggest that it could be a feasible model.
