In the next four years, Mercedes will develop a rival for the BMW X6. The new model will be called MLC and it is said to be inspired by the architecture of the new ML.

Mercedes promises to launch a sporty SUV as a rival to competitors.

According to Automotive News magazine, the Governing Board has already approved of the development of a model, named MLC, which will be based on the new generation ML architecture, which is expected this fall in Frankfurt.

The project will be codenamed C166 and will hit the market in 2015. The American plant in Tuscaloosa will take care of the assembly.

The German model will take units of four, six and eight cylinder from the range of the new ML. Gas, diesel and hybrid versions are expected to be produced.
