The future Porsche 911 GT3 might have a central engine
The Porsche 911 GT3 may have a central engine and will only be available in the company of a dual-clutch PDK transmission. The rumor has been confirmed by Porsche officials.
According to insiders, the future Porsche 911 GT3 will only be available in the version with the PDK transmission, and the engine will be centrally located.
In addition, people at Porsche have denied rumors about the introduction of the KERS system taken from Williams. Therefore, the hybrid version of the Porsche 911 GT3 won’t see the daylight soon, keeping the type KERS hybrid system for only 918 RSR.
The same sources suggest that the boxer engine that will be used by future 911 GT3 will have a displacement of 4.0 liters and will deliver around 480 hp. In addition, the mass will be reduced by more than 100 kilograms and the weight distribution will also be perfected since the engine will not be placed in the back, but will be mounted centrally.
This change will create the first central engine 911, an almost unbelievable change for a model known for its successive developments.
As for the PDK transmission, Porsche purists might make mischief when this will be offered exclusively on the Porsche 911 GT3 RS. This model could still be offered with a manual transmission, although the abilities of the PDK transmission are recognized even by ardent fans of the other brand in Stuttgart.
