John Galliano suspended from Dior for alleged anti-semitism

This suspension followed an altercation that the creator had with a couple, in which he was accused of making anti-Semitic and racist insults.

Dior awaits the outcome of the investigation to take a definitive position, stressing its “zero-tolerance policy regarding anti-Semitism and racism.”

Galliano’s lawyer, Stephane Zerbib, told the AFP that the designer “formally denies the accusations of anti-Semitism made against him … [he] is not at all in this state of mind [and] will explain later.” Zerbib added that “legal action will be taken against those making such accusations.”

The 50-year-old British fashion designer, who took the reins of creation for Dior in 1996, has emerged as one of the most inventive and creative, flamboyant creators, drawing inspiration from history and his travels around the world.

According to preliminary information gathered by the police, the scene took place Thursday around 9:00 p.m. at the cafe “The Pearl” located in the Marais, a historic Jewish community of Paris. An altercation broke out for unknown reasons between the designer and a couple seated next to him.

Quickly arrested by police after the incident, the designer was taken to the police station to be heard before being released. A medical examination revealed a blood alcohol level of 1.1 milligrams of alcohol per liter of breath.

The two victims have complained to the police station, police said. The prosecution was unable to confirm the filing of these complaints.

One Opinion to “John Galliano suspended from Dior for alleged anti-semitism”

  1. SunnyNina1 says:

Whether it is true or not will come out of the apparent investigation that is being conducted right. And until that investigation is completed, I think Dior has every right and duty to suspend Galliano until the investigation is finished.
