Arnold Schwarzenegger’s youngest son was hospitalized after an accident on a beach in Malibu.

According to reports, Christopher Schwarzenegger, 13, was surfing on the west coast on a Malibu beach on July 17 when he lost control of his board. He was rushed to a medical center where he was treated for multiple fractures and a collapsed lung.

Reports also say that the boy’s mother Maria Shriver has not left his bedside and she sleeps in the hospital. Schwarzenegger has visited his son several times in recent days.

Despite Arnold and Maria’s divorce, all family members have joined forces to offer support to Christopher.

The former governor of California and his ex-wife Maria Shriver issued a joint statement about the incident.

“A few days ago our son Christopher suffered an accident at the beach,” the couple says. “While it has been a very scary week, Christopher is surrounded by his family and friends. He is a brave boy and is expected to make a full recovery.”

“On behalf of our entire family, we want to sincerely thank the paramedics and lifeguards who responded so swiftly as well as the doctors, nurses, emergency room and hospital staff who have cared for our son,” the statement continues.

“They have been extraordinary to him and to us. We thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers and ask for respect and privacy for Christopher and our family.”

Christopher’s sister Katherine wrote on Twitter about the accident: “Thank you guys for ur concern and prayers for my baby brother!” she wrote. “He’s a tough little guy and getting better! Please keep praying for him!”

His brother Patrick also tweeted: “Thank you everyone for your messages about my brother. This kid is strongest kid I ever seen. Keep praying.”
