Ashley Judd reveals childhood sexual abuse in autobiography

Actress Ashley Judd publishes an autobiography entitled “All That Is Bitter and Sweet.”

She particularly talks about her unhappy childhood, marked by lies and sexual abuse.

“My mother, while she was transforming herself into the country legend Naomi Judd, created an origin myth for the Judds that did not match my reality,” Ashley wrote in her book.

The actress reveals that even if her mother convinced her father, Michael Ciminelli, he was the father of her sister Wynonna, it was actually a man named Charlie Jordan who was the real father. When he was made aware of this fact, Ciminelli wanted nothing to do with it.

Ashley also said that marijuana was always in their house. Her father used hallucinogenic drugs with his friends Saturday nights.

When she was young, her parents broke up. Her mother then lived with an abusive heroin addict, a person with a criminal past.

“I loved my mother, but at the same time I dreaded the mayhem and uncertainty that followed her everywhere…I often felt like an outsider observing my mom’s life as she followed her own dreams,” says Ashley.

In her autobiography, she also remembers being sexually abused, which lead her into a depression.

“An old man everyone knew beckoned me into a dark, empty corner of the business and offered me a quarter for the pinball machine at the pizza place if I’d sit on his lap. He opened his arms, I climbed up, and I was shocked when he suddenly cinched his arms around me, squeezing me and smothering my mouth with his, jabbing his tongue deep into my mouth,” Ashley remembers.

The book arrives in stores April 5th.
