Bipolar Disorder: Catherine Zeta-Jones hospitalized

“After dealing with the stress of the past year, Catherine made the decision to check in to a mental health facility for a brief stay to treat her Bipolar II disorder. She’s feeling great and looking forward to starting work this week on her two upcoming films” her rep told People in a statement.

Zeta-Jones has spent about five days in a facility whose name was not disclosed, a friend told People.

“There’s no question it’s been a stressful year,” the same source says. “Catherine has had deal with Michael’s illness and that’s been hard. She went in for a few days because she’s about to start working, and wanted to make sure she’s in top form, which she is.”

The actress suffers from Bipolar II disorder. People with this form of the disease tend to suffer more from depression. Bipolar disorder is a mental illness that causes mood swings characterized by periods of excitement alternating with periods of depression.

According to TMZ, Zeta-Jones is staying at the Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut.

After suffering from a tumor in the tongue, Michael Douglas announced that he had beaten the cancer last January.
