Both were born in South Africa and are almost the same age.
They are tall, blonde with green eyes. Both are successful in different fields: Charlize won an Oscar for her complex role in Monster, while Charlene won three gold medals at the Swimming World Cup in 2002.
The question is: do you like Hollywood or royal beauty?
The Sweet November and Monster actress was born in Benoni, South Africa, on August 7, 1975.
Her father, Charles Theron, was the owner of a construction company. Her mother, Gerda, is of German origin and she took over her husband’s business after his death.
Theron’s mother tongue is Afrikaans and that the second language she speaks is English. “Theron” is a French name pronounced in Afrikaans “Tronn”; she said she prefers having her name pronounced “Thrown”.
At 16, Charlize was heading to Milan for a one year contract as a model after winning a local contest. Her contract ended while she was in New York City and she decided to stay there in order to be able to attend Joffrey Ballet school. There she trained to become a ballerina. A knee injury suffered at 18 ended her ballet career.
Eight months later, she got her first role, in the third film of the series Children of the Corn. Her career took off in the late 90s with successful films like The Devil’s Advocate, The Cider House Rules and Mighty Joe Young.
Last year, Charlize broke up with actor Stuart Townsend, with whom she had had a relationship for several years. She says she likes safe long lasting relationships, but sees no reason to formalize them.
On the other hand, although she says she thinks marriage is a “divine right,” Charlize, who advocates for the legalization of same-sex marriage, doesn’t intend to marry. She says that she is pleased that homosexual marriages are allowed in New York, but believes that the U.S. government is trying enough as such as marriages are prohibited in many U.S. states.
Over time, she has been linked to various celebrities such as the star of “The Hurt Locker”, Jeremy Renner, she was spotted hugging Keanu Reeves in Beverly Hills. Actor / model Eric Thal and recently Scarlett Johansson’s ex-husband, Ryan Reynolds, were also rumored to have fallen for her charm.
Charlene was born on January 25, 1978, in Rhodesia (today Zimbabwe). She is the eldest daughter of three children of a middle class family.
She learned to swim at age 3. At 10, her family moved to Benoni, a suburb of the city of Johannesburg in South Africa and became citizens of this country.
Her childhood and her sports career, which ended in 2007 due to injury, made her a woman able to adapt to circumstances and to particular a discipline, as she confesses.
Charlene Wittstock began to draw attention to her performance in sport in the late 90s and represented South Africa at the Olympic Games in Sydney in 2000. Her career peaked two years later, when she won three gold medals at the Swimming World Cup in 2002, for 50m and 100m crawl and the 4x100m relay.
A shared passion for sport is what brought Prince Albert II of Monaco and the South African swimming champion in 2000 at a contest held in Monaco. Albert was chairing the competition. Albert, himself a member of the national bobsleigh team, with whom he had participated in five Olympic Games, from Calgary in 1988 to Salt Lake City in 2002, noticed the beautiful blond, invited her to a dinner and seduced her with his natural charm, according to Charlene’s words.
She is also involved in humanitarian action and is one of the sponsors of the Nelson Mandela Foundation.
Prince Albert and Charlene Wittstock married on July 2. The wedding in Monaco lasted for three days – the civil marriage, the religious ceremony and the celebrations that followed – and included, among others, concerts performed by Jean Michel Jarre and The Eagles).
The newlyweds spent their luxurious honeymoon in South Africa.
