The Coldplay frontman is usually very discrete about his private life, yet he recently opened about his marriage during an interview with CBS Sunday Morning.

Married to the actress for 8 years and father of two toddlers, Moses, 5, and Apple, 7, Chris Martin still lives on cloud number 9 in what he considers his first serious relationship.

Asked by presenter Anthony Mason if it was true that he’d only had “one serious relationship”, asked Martin, 34, replied: “That’s right. I’m in it.”

The interviewer went on to point out that Martin’s inexperience with relationships was “pretty unusual” and told him he had made” quite a leap” in marrying Paltrow.

Chris said: “It’s a big leap? What, from being a loser to going out with an Oscar winner? It’s a giant leap. Lets face it, it’s like winning the lottery.”

The singer also explained that fatherhood has greatly affected his work.

“It’s made it more focused,” he said. “And you have a purpose. I like what it does. Just the idea of having to work hard so your kids are okay.”

Chris Martin and Coldplay’s entire interview with Anthony Mason airs October 16 at 9 a.m. on CBS Sunday Morning
