George Clooney won’t become a husband too soon

In an interview on “Piers Morgan Tonight” the 49-year-old actor talked about movies, charity and love.

Clooney appeared on the show with his father, Nick, who admitted he “yearned for the moment” when his son would pop the question to Elisabetta Canalis, his actual girlfriend, adding that he and George’s mom Nina have been married for 51 years.

“I want you to think about that. I want you to think about — we’ve been married — Nina and I’ve been married 51 years,” Nick Clooney told his son.

“I hate to blow your whole news story, but I was married. Yeah, so I’ve proven how good I was at it, and I just… I’m allowed one,” George replied, talking of his marriage to actress Talia Balsam from 1989 to 1993.

Clooney and Italian model Elisabetta Canalis, 32, have been dating since 2009.

In a 2010 interview with the Italian issue of Vanity Fair, Canalis talked about about her relationship with the actor.

“There are some people who just don’t want to see me happy,” Canalis said. “[George] reassures me all the time. He is very close. I feel more embraced than ever before. The idea of being so loved is overwhelming…George has given color back to my life.”

Clooney also revealed he was grateful to his father for teaching him the value of charity, “to help look out for people that are less fortunate than you and to challenge people that are in power.”

When Morgan asked what’s his reaction to people saying he’s wasting his time in Sudan and that his charity work is for “self-aggrandizing reasons,” Clooney replied: “I don’t need to be more famous. I’ve got all the attention I need and I’m just trying to use that attention on other people.”

As for contracting malaria while on a humanitarian visit to Sudan, the actor jokingly said he has recovered: “Even with malaria, it’s just good fun. I guess the mosquito in Juba looked at me and thought I was the bar.”
