Halle Berry, 44, and model Gabriel Aubry, 35, are engaged in a fierce and widely publicized battle for custody of their daughter, Nahla.
After five years of relationship, the couple quietly separated in April 2010. They were determined to maintain a peaceful relationship and looked good in front of the media. Now, almost a year later, both sides are making harsh accusations.
In August 2010, Nahla’s father complained about not being able to look after his daughter when Halle Berry was shooting with the toddler in London. A few months later, on December 30, the French-Canadian model filed court papers, seeking formal recognition as Nahla’s father and joint legal and physical custody
Apparently, things got nasty around Christmas when the couple’s 2-year-old daughter Nahla became hysterical after Aubry came to pick her up for a visit.
“She was crying and kicking and screaming,” a source claims. “She was hanging onto her mother’s legs so she didn’t have to go. He got Nahla and forced her into the car.” The incident left Halle upset and that’s when their relationship disintegrated, sources claim.
In addition, other insiders say Aubry made violent and racist insults to Halle, calling her the “N” word, a “f**king bitch” and other expletives.
In January, Halle Berry released statement to the press, saying she “serious concerns for her daughter’s well-being while in the care of her father for any extended period of time and is prepared to take all necessary steps to protect her.”
Business partner Stephane Bibeau and Aubry’s former friend told People: “Once they broke up he became verbally threatening to Halle. He is a vindictive guy.”
According to TMZ, Page Bogart, a woman who dated the model five years ago, claimed, “Gabriel’s entire motivation has always been money,” adding, “I tried to warn Halle early on but I guess she didn’t want to believe it.”
In addition, another woman who dated Aubry from 2003 to 2005 told TMZ he was “very disrespectful to women” and even called him “a borderline racist.” However, the woman claims Gabriel never once laid a hand on her during their relationship.
On Tuesday, a rep for Aubry responded to Access Hollywood in a statement: “While Gabriel is disappointed in Halle’s decision to falsely malign him publicly and for her own purposes, he refuses to be pulled into her dispute over a canceled film production. Gabriel also refuses to air their issues in the press as he believes this may ultimately harm their daughter. The fact is that Gabriel is a caring father who shares custody of Nahla. Halle’s continuing allegations in the press are untrue and irresponsible.”
Latest rumors talk about a scorching email that the actress send Gabriel, in which she told him, “You were only good for one thing… Thanks for the donation.”
Regarding Berry’s accusing her ex of throwing harsh insults at her, a source close to Aubry told RadarOnline.com, “It’s just not something that would come out of Gabriel’s mouth. I’ll confess that I’ve heard him call her “a f***ing b**ch” before — when he’s been provoked, but I am talking serious provocation.
“And it’s very, very rare… usually when she would call him and go crazy at him he would go silent and let her rant and rave then just ask her ‘are you finished now?’. I think that used to wind her up more than if he lost his cool with her, which, admittedly I know he did on a couple of occasions,” the source added.
“Perhaps if Halle spent more time truly worrying about that and less time worrying about how she’s being portrayed in the press the situation would be better and easier for all concerned.”
