Halle Berry talks “race” in Ebony interview

What should have been a friendly separation between Halle Berry and Gabriel Aubry turns into a racist confrontation around the little Nahla.

The couple has been disputing the custody of their daughter since last month.

After media reports talked about how Nahla’s encounters with her father left her “traumatized,” rumors of racism have recently affected the conflict between the former couple. TMZ cited a former companion of Aubry, 35, calling him “a borderline racist”.

Sources close to the actress have also told the site he allegedly made racial slurs against her on several occasions. According to informants, Aubry “went nuts” when someone spoke of his daughter as black, insisting that his daughter was white.

In an interview for the March issue of Ebony magazine, Halle subtly commented on these incidents: “I feel she’s Black. I’m Black and I’m her mother, and I believe in the one-drop theory.” The “one drop rule” is a principle established during segregation in the US, that any person having any relationship with a black person is considered black.
