It’s official: the remake of Dirty Dancing will soon go into production.
The 1987 cult film, starring the late Patrick Swayze and Jennifer Grey, told the story of a young girl falling in love with her dance teacher, who taught her the “dirty dancing”, a very sensual dance.
Jennifer Grey, who played the lead female role Baby in the 1987 film, told fans through her publicist that she is excited about the upcoming remake.
“I’m so excited about this news and I think there’s nobody better than my beloved Kenny Ortega who is as responsible as anyone for the success of the first one. I can’t wait to see what he’s going to do with it.”
Kenny Ortega, director of This Is It and High School Musical, but also the first choreographer of Dirty Dancing, will be the producer of a new version of the film that marked a generation.
Grey tweeted about Ortega directing the remake, saying, “I love @Kennyortega and trust that he will do something special #DirtyDancingRemake.”
The studio has reassured fans that they intend to respect the spirit of the original film including the soundtrack with tubes from the 60s.
