Kate Winslet has spoken for the first time about her escaping a big fire last week.

On August 22, Kate Winslet escaped a fire that completely destroyed Richard Branson’s house on a private Caribbean island. The actress now returns to the event.

Kate and her kids Mia, 10, and Joe, 7, and boyfriend Louis Dowler were among the twenty people who managed to escape the flames that ravaged Branson’s home on Necker Island on Monday, August 22, after a lightning struck the building.

The Titanic star also saved Branson’s 91-year-old mother from the flames, carrying her out to safety.

“I will never forget Richard placing his arms around both my children as we were watching the flames, and saying, ‘At the end of the day, what you realize is that all that matters is the people that you love. Everything else is just stuff. And none of that stuff matters,’” she told Entertainment Tonight.

“I’m just glad that everyone is safe,” Winslet said. “And this easily could not have been the case.”
